It took me forever to finally decide to edit this image. This rugged part of the California coastline is located at a state park near in Los Osos called Montana de Oro. It’s not quite as rugged as Big Sur, but it’s pretty close! I had to park pretty far away and then walk along a trail with 3-4 foot tall grass on both sides. About halfway down the trail I started to remember all of mountain lions that are regularly seen in the SLO area and how I was all alone out on this trail, surrounded by tall grass. I got pretty uncomfortable pretty fast! And that sort of thing doesn’t usually scare me, I just had a bad feeling about it. So when I got to this beach I eventually ran into another photographer who I talked to for a while and then walked back with :-).The image took me a long time to edit because the sunset was really quite….meh. It was really hazy for some reason so all the colors in the sky were muted. I eventually settled on this composition and just took as much of the sky out as possible. The colors in the foreground were amazing and I was actually standing on the very edge of a cliff for this shot, looking down about 50 ft to these rocks.
