I’ve been battling the stomach flu so haven’t had a chance to share much. Hopefully I’ll be back to normal soon, ugh. This was the first image I set up for in Zion National Park back in September. About five minutes after entering the park, we got hit hard by a massive monsoon storm that flooding the Virgin River, flooded the roads, sent boulders crashing down into streets and eventually shut down the east side of the park. We got a brief clearing in the storm and were able to get out and shoot some car trails as visitors were bailing and getting out of the park, lol.
If you look at the car trails in the photo, you’ll see both headlights and tail lights. That’s from two separate images (not too many cars out that night). Bringing the tail lights into the image was a piece of cake. I just opened the two images in Photoshop as layers, then set the blend mode for the tail light image to “Lighten” and that’s it. That blend mode made some very subtle changes to the cliffs in the background so I threw a black mask on and then just painted in the tail light areas.
